The pain service will be staffed by a full time faculty 24 hrs.
Acute Pain Service
This anesthesiology-based consult service is primarily concerned with providing optimal analgesia to postoperative patients and individuals suffering acute exacerbation of medical and oncological pain.
Residents gain exposure to all aspects of analgesic management, including assessment of pain intensity, testing and replacement of epidural catheters, stabilization of vital signs and treatment of side effects.
This service provides care for both chronic, malignant and
non-malignant pain on an outpatient basis. Emphasis is on a
multidisciplinary approach toward the management of pain and
incorporates both outpatient and inpatient settings. The primary
area of knowledge will include chronic pain syndromes,
diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and interactions with
other disciplines such as physical therapy, psychology,
rehabilitation, orthopedics, neurosurgery, oncologists and
The pain service will provide 24 hrs seven-day week coverage of inpatients consults. These consist of patients requiring hospitalization for advanced pain management. All consultations will be seen within 24hrs. A consultation note is filled out as
well as a daily progress note for as long as the patient is on the pain service.
